AOC Coteaux du Languedoc Cuvée Charles 2013
An
exceptional terroir in Languedoc, Terrasses du Larzac combine Languedoc
generosity with Larzac freshness Soil: rounded stones and gravel with some red clay. Grapes: 32% Carignan 32% Grenache & 35% Syrah ; a touch of Mourvèdre Harvest: hand picking with systematic hand selection Production: 25 hl/ha Vinification: Long vatting for 21 to 31 days with pumping-over and punching of the cap. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation partly under marc. Maturation: a 24-month ageing period including 12 months in oak barrels. Natural decanting thanks to cold winter temperatures. Bottling : at the wine estate, without fining or filtration in order to keep the structure of the wine unspoiled.
Vintage: a paradoxical year which started with a cool and rather rainy period and very slow ripeness. Eventually 320 sunny days (like nowhere else) resulted in satisfactory quantities and above all an unbelievable quality: fruit, roundness, freshness, mineral notes, concentration are all there! A vintage which will no doubt stand out!!! Eye: a garnet colour both deep and shiny. Nose: elegant and complex nose, aromas of black berries, "garrigue", spices and toasted notes. Hints of menthol. Palate: the mouth is supple and surprisingly fresh. The tannins are silky and elegant. A long finish. The Terroir wine per excellence ! Ageing Capacity: already pleasant to drink – ageing potential of seven to eight years Serving Temperature: 18° C / 65° F - You are advised to decant it for at least 2 hours… Food & Wine Suggestions: This complex and elegant wine provides a refined companion for T-bone steak, meat in sauce, game (duck, boar…) or a very good Cassoulet… |
