Cuvée Charles 2014
Terroir of exception in Languedoc, Terrasses du Larzac combine Languedoc generosity with Larzac freshness for cuvées with character whose keywords are purity and elegance.
Soil: rounded stones and gravel with some red clay.
Grapes: 1/3 Carignan, 1/3 Grenache, & 1/3 Syrah
Harvest: hand picking with systematic hand selection
Production: 25 hl/ha
Vinification: Long vatting for 28 to 30 days with pumping-over and punching of the cap. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation partly under marc.
Maturation: a 26-month ageing period including 13 months in oak barrels. Natural decanting thanks to cold winter temperatures.
Bottling : at the wine estate, without fining or filtration in order to keep the structure of the wine unspoiled.
Vintage: a dry and warm early spring, followed from mid-June onwards by a cool summer with regular showers which were favourable. A low-yielding vintage, very balanced though with fine maturity and overall freshness and elegance.
Eye: a deep garnet colour with darker hues.
Nose: the nose is distinct, both complex and elegant. Aromas of spices, “garrigue”, and fruit in alcohol. Delicate roasted notes.
Palate: The mouth is supple and fresh with melted and elegant tannins. Spicy notes. A balance based on smooth roundness and a long-lasting persistence. The Terroir wine per excellence!
Ageing Capacity: already pleasant to drink – ageing potential of seven to eight years
Serving Temperature: 18° C / 65° F - You are advised to decant it for at least 2 hours…
